The Department of Mathematics (DipMat) was created to enhance the mathematical research activity in our university and to establish appropriate partnerships with other national and international research areas by promoting both the interdisciplinary researches and the applications of mathematics. The DipMat intends to make a substantial contribution to the progress of knowledge in the field of basic research and to the strengthening and growing of internationalization projects related to research and teaching. Moreover, it intends to promote new internationalization initiatives for students and researchers.
The scientific production of its members is internationally recognised. The constant commitment to the promotion of scientific debate and of the development of innovative research projects will be the strengths of the Department's activities.

The activities of the Department aim to develop significant aspects of Mathematical sciences, like Algebra, Mathematical Analysis, Numerical Analysis, Mathematical Education, Mathematical Physics, Geometry, Mathematical Logic, Probability and Statistics , Operational Research.

The goal of the educational project of the Department is to provide the teaching of mathematical sciences in the several levels of the university education (bachelor's degree, master degree, PhD, Post-graduate master degrees)  and to contribute to instruct the school teachers, both beginners and already working ones (TFA).  The educational availability of Department of Mathematics is among the largest in the university of Salerno: professors teach in several bachelor's and master degrees. In particular, Mathematics Department designs and organizes teaching activities of the courses of Mathematics bachelor's and master degree.
